ARMY DIR 2023-02 governs direct appointment and commission of warrant officers outside rated aviation or special forces military occupation specialties.

It expands opportunities for Soldiers in other MOSs to seek direct appointment as WO1 or direct commission as CW2. It establishes selection criteria, WOBC certification requirements, WOCS completion requirements, and exceptions for WO1 appointment.
Applies to: The provisions of this directive apply to the Regular Army, Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and U.S. Army Reserve.
Effective immediately, Soldiers in other MOSs may be eligible for direct appointment to the grade of WO1 or direct commission to the grade of CW2. (paragraph 5)
Selection for each source of accession will be made based on criteria established by the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS), G-1 in coordination with the MOS proponent branch. (paragraph 5)
All such accessions are contingent on technical and tactical certification by completion of the appropriate Warrant Officer Basic Course (WOBC) pursuant to Army Regulation (AR) 601100. (paragraph 5)
For appointment as warrant officer, the Soldier must complete all phases of WOCS or WOCS-RC within 2 years of selection. (paragraph 5)
Following graduation from the Warrant Officer Basic Course or by MOS proponent technical and tactical certification and award of the military occupational specialty, candidates who meet accession requirements established by the DCS, G-1, in coordination with the MOS proponent, may be eligible for direct commissioning to CW2 in lieu of WO1. (paragraph 5)
