It addresses local awards programs, acceptable competition categories, medallions, and subordinate command awards. It requires awards to recognize accomplishments above normal duty, contain the award purpose, and have a nominal value of $50.00 or less.
Applies to: This Order applies to awards for active duty, reserve, and civilian Marines.
Appropriated funds may be used to purchase trophies, medals, badges, and similar devices to include medallions ("coins") presented as awards recognizing the recipient's significant accomplishments. (paragraph 4)
Appropriated funds may not be used to purchase utilitarian items as awards; e.g., clothing, uniform items, jewelry, functional weapons, etc. (paragraph 4)
Nominal value for the purpose of this order is $50.00 or less. (paragraph 4)
The accomplishments being recognized must be of such a nature that they are above and beyond that expected of an individual or unit in the normal performance of duty. (paragraph 9)
Medallions ("coins") purchased with appropriated funds may not contain the name of any individual commander. (paragraph 2)
