Applies to: This Order provides policy and procedures for the development, review, approval, publication and maintenance of Mission Essential Task List (METL) to support Marine Corps units, installations, and organizations.
A MET is an externally focused action, process, or ac~ivity (task) deemed critical to mission accomplishment. (paragraph 3)
The METL is the sum of all METs required by all missions assigned to a unit, as well as, additional tasks designated by the unit's chain of command. (paragraph 3)
A MET must be focused outside of the command and support another command or directly affect the enemy. (paragraph 3)
A quantified MET consists of a task together with associated conditions and standards. (paragraph 3)
Conditions are variables of the environment that affect the performance of tasks in the context of the assigned mission. (paragraph 3)
