The publication establishes requirements for physical fitness training, medical pre-screening, PFT administration, scoring, waivers, exemptions, and reconditioning. It also addresses evaluations, non-compliance consequences, appeals, forms, and regaining compliance.
Applies to: This Instruction applies to all CG active and reserve component service members, and all U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) officers detailed to the CG.
The PFT is used to ensure that service members meet basic physical fitness standards.
All service members are required to conduct physical fitness training four days per week, during the duty-day (operations permitting), and in accordance with their duty status.
The PFT consists of three parts: medical pre-screening, a three-event test of cardio-respiratory and muscular endurance, and post-PFT data capture in the appropriate system within the Coast Guard Military Human Resource Record (CGMHRR).
All service members are required to complete U.S. Coast Guard Physical Fitness Test Pre-Screening, Form CG-6120, prior to taking their official PFT.
A service member is compliant with the PRP when they achieve at least the minimum score required on all three individual PFT events during their testing window as described in Paragraph 17 of this Instruction.
