It defines configuration management policy, processes, procedures, baselines, and five interrelated elements for the Coast Guard. The publication requires units and commands to use appropriate levels of configuration management and establish tailored processes.
Applies to: This Instruction and its associated guidance as contained in the CM Manager’s Handbook applies to all existing and new start CG configurations, including computer software and firmware.
All CG unit commanders, commanding officers, officers-in-charge, deputy/assistant commandants, and chiefs of headquarters staff elements must comply with the provisions of this Instruction. (paragraph 2)
Each unit or command is required to use appropriate levels of configuration management and shall establish a tailored CM process for this purpose.
CM will apply to all assets, systems, subsystems, components and infrastructure, herein after called Configuration Items (CIs).
CM is composed of the following five interrelated elements: Management and Planning, Identification, Control, Status Accounting and Verification and Audits.
Configuration Baselines are an agreed upon description of the attributes of a product, at a point in time, which serves as a starting point for controlling configuration.
