It addresses eligibility, dependent-abuse offenses, benefits for retirement-eligible members, privacy provisions, and program administration. It requires Coast Guard unit commanders and other listed leaders to comply with its provisions.
Applies to: All Coast Guard unit commanders, commanding officers, officers-in-charge, deputy/assistant commandants, and chiefs of headquarters staff elements must comply with the provisions of this Instruction.
A dependent-abuse offense is conduct by a member of the Armed Forces, while on active duty for more than 30 days, that involves the abuse of the spouse or dependent child of the member and is a criminal offense defined by Reference (d) or other criminal code applicable to the jurisdiction where the act of abuse is committed.
If a former spouse receiving payments remarries, payments terminate as of the date of the remarriage.
Ensures the spouse or dependent-child (or legal guardian as appropriate) is provided Application for Transitional Compensation, Form CG-1754.1, through the assigned FAS or Special Victim’s Counsel (SVC).
A spouse or former spouse may not concurrently receive payments of transitional compensation under References (a) and (c).
