It provides doctrinal guidance for all types of Coast Guard Boat Forces units, including cutters with cutter boats. It requires designated Coast Guard commanders and leaders to comply with its policies and adds the Boat Forces Master Keeper Certificate chapter.
Applies to: This Instruction provides policy and training requirements for Coast Guard Boat Forces operations and is intended for use by all personnel engaged in or supervising boat operations and training.
All Coast Guard unit and training center commanders, commanding officers, officers-in-charge, deputy/assistant commandants, and chiefs of headquarter directorates must comply with the policies contained. (paragraph 2)
In situations where this Directive does not address a specific organizational construct or relationship and the application of a particular provision is unclear, users should seek clarification from their reporting senior and advise Office of Boat Forces (CG-731) through their chain of command to clarify the provision in question. (paragraph 5)
The reissue of this Instruction features two updates: a. Updated Note 2 in Table 4-5. b. Added Part 5 Chapter 9 Boat Forces Master Keeper Certificate. (paragraph 7)
Operations Status reports are required by shore authority. All Coast Guard programs are subject to internal and external audit. (paragraph 1-3)
