It establishes the APO program, replacing AMI training expectations for first-tour Prevention officers. It sets assignment, experience, training, rotation, oversight, and mentorship requirements across Prevention missions.
Applies to: All Coast Guard unit commanders, commanding officers, officers-in-charge, deputy/assistant commandants, and chiefs of headquarter directorates must comply with the policies contained.
APO assignments to designated feeder ports are four years in length.
Officers receiving orders outside of typical transfer windows will receive 3.5-year orders.
APOs must complete the minimum experience and training expectations across the Prevention missions to successfully fulfil the APO requirements.
Completion of an APO tour is required for new accessions into a Prevention Officer Career and is the primary path for obtaining the OAP-10 Officer Specialty Management System designation.
Officers reporting prior to Assignment Year 2025 and were assigned as AMIs will continue to meet the qualification and performance standards of the AMI Program.
