USAFAMD4 describes the Dean’s authority over faculty, staff, and cadets, along with academic development and curriculum responsibilities. It requires education programs, degree programs, strategic planning, metrics, and program reviews to support institutional outcomes and accreditation.
Applies to: This mission directive does not apply to the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) or the Air National Guard (ANG).
To educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation. (paragraph 1)
Reports directly to the Superintendent, United States Air Force Academy. (paragraph 2)
Designs curriculum to ensure the 4-year undergraduate program, as outlined in the Course of Instruction (COI) and meets, as a minimum, the Higher Learning Commission accreditation requirements. (paragraph 3)
Per 10 U.S.C. § 9334(b), Permanent Professors exercise command only in their respective academic department of the Academy. (paragraph 3)
Comprised of four (4) Permanent Professors selected from each of the four (4) academic divisions (Basic Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities). Serve two (2) year terms (extendable) and are appointed by the Dean of the Faculty. (paragraph 3)
