The instruction covers de-icing execution authority, aircrew certification, defrosting, alert aircraft, alternate locations, and ICECON levels. It requires coordination, approval for alternate de-icing locations, and compliance with specified training and aircraft handling procedures.
Applies to: This instruction is applicable to all 22d Maintenance Group (MXG), 22d Operations Group (OG), 22d Mission Support Group (MSG), 22d Medical Group (MDG), 22d ARW Command Post (22 ARW/CP) and 931st Operations Group (931 OG) personnel.
Based on meteorological data, planning procedures to de-ice aircraft will be implemented at McConnell from 1 November through 31 March, unless otherwise dictated by both the 22 and 931 OG/CCs.
The OG/CC or higher is the execution authority for deicing procedures at McConnell AFB.
De-icing and anti-icing fluids are approved for use in aircraft technical orders, however only de-icing fluid is used at McConnell AFB.
Aircrews (generally Pilots and Navigators) will receive de-icing ground training from a certified De-icing “Foxtrot.”
Normal de-icing procedures allow a maximum of two medium sized aircraft (e.g., KC-135) to de-ice simultaneously using de-icing pits Charlie and Delta.
