Applies to: This Instruction applies to all host, associate, and temporary duty organizations on March ARB units, tenants, and the Air National Guard (ANG) units who prepare, manage, review, certify, approve, disseminate and/or use official Air Force Instructions.
The WHMP must identify hazardous wildlife attractants on or near the airport and the appropriate wildlife damage management techniques to minimize the wildlife hazard. (paragraph 3-5)
In recognition of the increased risk of serious aircraft damage or the loss of human life that can result from a wildlife strike, the FAA may require the development of a Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP) when specific triggering events occur on or near the airport. (paragraph 3)
If an existing land-use practice creates a wildlife hazard and the land-use practice or wildlife hazard cannot be immediately eliminated, airport operators must issue a Notice to Airmen and encourage the land–owner or manager to take steps to control the wildlife hazard and minimize further attraction. (paragraph 3-7)
