Applies to: This instruction applies to all military, civilian, contractor, and other personnel supported by Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) who possess, use, or handle sources of RAM, ionizing radiation producing devices (RPD), lasers, and Electromagnetic Field Radiation (EMFR) emitters within the confines of JBER.
The Laser and Optical Radiation Safety Program incorporates guidance and criteria for the safe use of lasers and laser systems as defined in the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z136.1, For Safe Use of Lasers, and implements the provisions of the Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 6055.15, Department of Defense (DoD) Laser Protection Program for Military Lasers. (paragraph 2)
The EMFR Safety Program implements the provisions of DoDI 6055.11, Protecting Personnel from Electromagnetic Fields, which requires compliance with all applicable Federal, ANSI, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards. (paragraph 2)
The Ionizing Radiation Safety Program implements the provisions of DoDI 6055.08, Occupational Ionizing Radiation Protection Program, as well as all applicable Federal and state standards. (paragraph 2)
