Applies to: This publication applies to Department of the Air Force (DAF) civilian employees and uniformed members of the United States Space Force (USSF), Regular Air Force (RegAF), Air Force Reserve (AFR), and Air National Guard (ANG).
Report all wildlife strikes within AFSAS. Due to the pause in funding for the Smithsonian Institution Feather Identification Laboratory, units will collect, preserve, and document wildlife remains but will not submit them to the Smithsonian until funding is restored.
Photographs of whole carcasses should be uploaded into AFSAS for species identification in lieu of shipping remains. Due to the pause in funding for the Smithsonian Institution Feather Identification Lab, units will retain all wildlife remains locally until identification is complete. (paragraph 91-223)
