DAFI36-2906 provides procedures for processing financial responsibility complaints, including commander reviews, response timelines, referrals, and possible administrative or disciplinary action. It also addresses military pay allotments for certain obligations and includes fact sheets on military personal indebtedness.
Applies to: This instruction applies to uniformed members of the Regular Air Force, United States Space Force, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard on Title 10 orders.
Federal law and policy (listed in Attachment 1) authorizes allotments from Regular Air Force, United States Space Force, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard members’ military pay to satisfy certain financial obligations.
Military members are expected to pay their just financial obligations.
Review and assess financial responsibility complaints in conjunction with legal review of documentation and respond to complainants within 15 calendar days for the Regular Air Force, United States Space Force, and Air Force Reserve and 60 calendar days for the Air National Guard.
Advise members and complainants of Department of the Air Force policy, including the fact that the Department of the Air Force has no authority to arbitrate disputed cases of nonsupport or personal indebtedness.
Refer members who demonstrate financial irresponsibility to the local Military and Family Readiness Center for financial management education and information.
