It explains how applicants seek correction of military records and how the AFBCMR evaluates applications, evidence, hearings, and recommended actions. It also addresses Board membership, mandatory training curricula, electronic filing, and higher-level review of specific discharge upgrade requests.
Applies to: This publication applies to the Department of the Air Force (DAF) to include members of the Regular Air Force, the United States Space Force (USSF), the Air National Guard, and the Air Force Reserve.
In accordance with Title 10 United States Code (U.S.C.) Section 1552, Correction of military records: claims incident thereto, the SecAF is authorized to correct any military record of the DAF when the SecAF considers it necessary to correct an error or remove an injustice.
Three members constitute a quorum of the Board.
Applicants may request a hearing; however the decision to grant a hearing is at the sole discretion of the Board.
In appropriate cases, it recommends correction of military records to remove an error or injustice.
