It establishes policy responsibilities for implementing the OPEN Government Data Act and supporting secure data sharing across mission areas. It requires data governance, accessible data architectures, information exchange, and management of Air Force data assets.
Applies to: This publication applies to all contractors, civilian employees and uniformed members of the Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard.
The purpose of Enterprise Data Management for the Air Force is to enhance data sharing and enable data to be visible, accessible, understandable, linked, and trusted (VAULT) to operationalize and enable stakeholders at all levels to make data-driven decisions. (paragraph 1)
All AF activities will comply with Air Force Policy Directive 33-3, Information Management, with regard to personally identifiable information and sharing of information. (paragraph 2)
Maintain data that is open and accessible to AF entities and Defense mission requirements except where constrained by law, regulation, security classification, guidance or policy. (paragraph 2)
Shall manage data assets of the Air Force, including the standardization of data format, sharing of data assets, and publication of data assets in accordance with applicable federal law, Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force issuances. (paragraph 3)
Shall ensure that, to the extent practicable, Air Force data conforms to data management best practices. (paragraph 3)
