AFPD41-1 establishes policy for using people and resources, supporting medical readiness, and delivering safe, quality, accessible health services. It assigns responsibilities for resource requirements, healthcare standards, and personnel development.
Applies to: This Directive applies to all Air Force Medical Service personnel who deliver healthcare program and resource support in active duty medical treatment facilities, Air Force Reserve Medical Units, Air National Guard Medical Groups, Aeromedical Evacuation Squadrons, communities, and deployed locations.
The Air Force Surgeon General (AF/SG). Develops all policy and guidance with the coordination and concurrence of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (SAF/MR) in accordance with Headquarters Mission Directive 1-48, paragraphs A4.1.1 and A4.1.2, concerning the Air Force Medical Service. (paragraph 2)
Use resources effectively and efficiently in support of its core readiness mission, providing and/or facilitating the appropriate health care—from the right source and in the proper amount of time. (paragraph 1)
Establish policies and provide broad oversight responsibility to govern medical operations, to include: support of full-spectrum medical readiness, integrated medical support to operations; and delivery of safe, quality, and accessible health services for the supported population. (paragraph 1)
Determine and validate resource requirements and allocate resources to complete the AFMS mission. (paragraph 2)
Strive to meet or exceed applicable federal or state requirements and industry standards in the delivery of healthcare. (paragraph 2)
