Applies to: This publication provides basic policy applicable to the maintenance, acquisition, sustainment and training for Regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Aircrew Flight Equipment functions.
The Air Force will establish, develop, field, track, maintain, sustain, and improve aircrew flight equipment as identified by user-validated/established operational requirements, operational deficiencies, suggestions, and aircraft mishap recommendations to enhance performance, minimize loss of life, and reduce support cost. (paragraph 2)
The Air Force will maintain aircrew flight equipment in optimum condition and train aircrew, Special Warfare Airmen, and passengers in procedures to ensure the most effective use of their equipment. (paragraph 2)
Establish procedures and systems for the proper total force life cycle management (from requirements to disposal) and tracking of aircrew flight equipment. (paragraph 3)
Identify AFE resource requirements, evaluate AFE program effectiveness and implement policies designed to ensure the qualification and training of assigned personnel. (paragraph 3)
The Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) program encompasses the support of aircrew, Special Warfare Airmen, and approved passengers. (paragraph 1)
