AFMD5 assigns duties to the Commander and Vice Commander, including organizing, training, equipping, and readiness of assigned forces. It also addresses space launch and range operations, commercial support agreements, space capabilities, acquisition, security cooperation, and space professional guidance.
Provide resilient and affordable space forces and capabilities for the Joint Force and the Nation. (paragraph 1)
Responsible to the Secretary of the Air Force (SecAF) and Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF) for administration, organizing, training, equipping, and readiness of assigned forces and AFSPC-gained Air National Guard units/forces. (paragraph 2)
In accordance with 10 USC § 2279c, the sole authority with respect to procurement of commercial satellite communications services for the Department of Defense, in consultation with the Chief Information Officer of the Department of Defense. (paragraph 2)
Maintain a national launch schedule and forecasting capability for all users of AFSPC-operated launch ranges, and all National Security Space missions launched from non-AFSPC-operated launch ranges. (paragraph 3)
