Applies to: This instruction does not apply to the Air National Guard or US Air Force Reserve units and members.
All T-2 modifications, to include hardware/software, will be classified as either Major or Minor. (paragraph 4)
A modification will be classified as Major if it involves a high degree of technical uncertainty, and it affects critical portions of one or more of the following areas: structure, propulsion sub-systems, avionics systems, software, aerodynamics, stability and control, etc. (paragraph 4)
The Air Force SEEK EAGLE Office (AFSEO; 96 SK) issues only recommended flight clearances (RFC) or stores modification assessments (SMA) for developmental and operational flight test activities involving changes, both hardware and software, to certified and uncertified stores to include changes in carriage quantity and/or location. (paragraph 4)
When a final flight release cannot be issued (e.g., an incomplete modification/demodification not affecting flight safety or a program requirement), then an AFMC Form 243 of up to 180 days may be issued by the responsible CCB authority.
In the event that the SPM does not concur, the test article will be fully demodified and the organization funding the modification will be responsible for funding the demodification.
