It establishes requirements for industrial-area eye protection, non-routine work certification, and Work Control Document validation. It also addresses the Team Spirit Inspection Program and reverse team spirit inspections, including funding, visits, and documentation.
Applies to: This instruction implements Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 21-1, Maintenance of Military Materiel, and provides directive guidance for maintenance management at the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) Centers organic depots as it applies to aircraft and associated aerospace equipment.
While in an industrial work area (inside the yellow lines and other designated eye hazard areas), all personnel, including visitors, will at a minimum, wear safety glasses with side protection (side shields or wrap around style glasses) meeting ANSI/ISEA Standard Z87.1. (paragraph 5)
The only exception to this policy is when work is at a complete stop (i.e., designated breaks, mealtimes, or times of assembly like shop meetings or ceremonies). (paragraph 5)
Non-routine work for workloads already established but not accomplished for an extended period of time, or in cases where no PAC-certified technicians are available, will require selecting the best qualified journeyman technician to perform the task under the direct oversight of the supervisor and an appropriate OC-ALC Group Production Engineering authority. TSIP is a voluntary program funded by the owning unit. (paragraph 5)
RTSI is a voluntary program funded by the performing depot. (paragraph 5)
