It covers minimum aircraft equipment, radar altimeters, water operations training, restraint devices, and lighting requirements. It requires specified equipment to be operational before flight and establishes conditions for restraints, water training, and flight lighting.
Applies to: This manual applies to all civilian employees and uniformed members of the Regular Air Force, the Air Force Reserve, and those who are contractually obligated to comply with Department of the Air Force publications.
Aircraft commanders will ensure the minimum aircraft equipment and instrumentation is listed in Table 5.2 are operational prior to flight. (paragraph 3)
Two operational radar altimeters are required for all low-level flight. (paragraph 3)
At least one radar altimeter must be operational for night operations (aided and unaided) below 500 feet AHO. (paragraph 3)
An operable white light is required for all flights. If infrared filter installed on the searchlight, the landing light must be operational. (paragraph 3)
Life rafts are not required for non-open ocean water training sorties when cover is provided by a boat or hoist equipped helicopter. (paragraph 5)
