The publication establishes the complex laser safety officer role, WR-ALC laser management procedures, engineering design responsibilities, and training conditions. It also sets waiver, records management, and contractor compliance requirements.
Applies to: This instruction applies to all WR-ALC personnel that operate lasers, including military and civilian personnel and all contractors using or maintaining WR-ALC facilities or equipment.
Contractors are responsible for compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and the protection of their employees unless otherwise specified in their contract.
Requests for waivers must be submitted through the chain of command to the appropriate Tier waiver approval authority.
Ensure all records created as a result of the processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in accordance with (IAW) Air Force Instruction (AFI) 33-322, Records Management and Information Governance Program, and disposed of IAW Air Force Records Information Management System Records Disposition Schedule.
Field activities must send implementing publications to the higher headquarters functional OPR for review and coordination before publishing.
