It establishes general guidelines for mission directives and assigns approval, certification, preparation, and repository responsibilities. It requires mission directives to define missions, command relationships, responsibilities, legal guidance, security classification, and numbering.
Applies to: This publication applies to civilians and uniformed members of the regular Air Force, the Air Force Reserve, and the Air National Guard.
Detachments, as well as other activities below squadron level, do not require a mission directive unless directed by the MAJCOM, DRU, or FOA commander. (paragraph 1)
Be brief and concise; limit to no more than two pages, if possible. (paragraph 3)
Mission directives describe what an organization does at the executive level, not how it does it. (paragraph 1)
