It covers first sergeant roles, eligibility, applications, selection, classification, training, and tenure across Air Force components. The publication requires compliance and establishes procedures for supplements, waivers, and records created by its processes.
Applies to: This AFI is applicable to Regular Air Force (RegAF), Air National Guard (ANG) and the Air Force Reserve (AFR).
Submit requests for waivers through the chain of command to the appropriate Tier waiver approval authority, or alternately, to the requestor’s commander for nontiered compliance items.
Ensure that all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in accordance with Air Force Manual (AFMAN) 33-363, Management of Records and disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Information Management System.
Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the OPR using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of Publication; route AF Forms 847 from the field through the appropriate functional chain of command.
Major changes include the responsibilities of the first sergeant position, functional manager position and command chief master sergeants (CCMs).
