AFI32-6000 addresses government-leased housing and oversight for privatized housing. It sets conditions for off-base residency, hardship and priority assignments, BAH eligibility, and use of family housing by unaccompanied members.

AF/A4 is the waiver approving authority for non-tiered requirements in this publication unless explicitly stated otherwise within this publication.
A member may occupy UH or other government-controlled housing that does not exceed minimum UH adequacy standards for assignment (Attachment 8) for the member’s grade and still be eligible to receive BAH at the with-dependent rate if, (a) member is unaccompanied, and (b) family members are not residing in adequate government housing elsewhere (reference DoD 7000.14-R, Financial Management Regulation (FMR), Volume 7A, Chapter 26, section 2603). If the occupied housing is the only housing available, and (a) housing is not suitable for joint occupancy, or (b) housing is suitable for joint occupancy and jointly occupied with another member of the appropriate grade permanently assigned to the duty station, BAH may not be terminated.
