AFI31-126 addresses annual trained dog requirements, service-initiated revisions, needs assessments, and contract working dog definitions and support. It requires formal approval for changes to trained dog requirements and limits working dog procurement outside the military working dog pipeline.
The Service MWD PM can request an out-ofcycle increase in existing MWDs that will result in a revised service TDR for the current four-year plan.
Requests should be addressed in writing to the DoD MWD PM stating reasons for the TDR revision.
The DoD and service components will perform a needs assessment evaluating MWD requirements every three years.
Any changes to the TDR will be submitted by the Service PMs or 341 TRS and approved by the DoD MWD EA Program Office via formal change memorandum to the TDR.
Working dog procurement outside of the MWD pipeline is restricted.
