AFI31-118 addresses the Security and Suitability Roadmap and the hiring process for positions filled through delegated examining authority. It requires application reviews, interviews, reference checks, tentative offers, physical agility testing, and onboarding actions.
Applies to: This guidance is applicable to all DAF civilian employees, uniformed members of the Regular Air Force, the Air Force Reserve, the Air National Guard (ANG), the United States Space Force (USSF), and those with a contractual obligation to abide by the terms of DAF publications.
Determine the best eligible candidates for the position based on a review of the applications/resumes and all appropriate documents by the selecting official. (paragraph 31-118)
Train individuals, including supervisor or manager, if a structured interview is being conducted as part of the assessment process. (paragraph 31-118)
Check references, verify current and/or previous employment, conduct reference checks of current and/or previous supervisors and conduct personal reference checks of individuals identified by the candidate. (paragraph 31-118)
