It defines key functions of the Air Force nuclear mission and provides guidance for Air Force nuclear governing bodies. It also addresses Nuclear Mission Assessments required by Title 10 United States Code § 8040.
Conduct periodic, comprehensive assessments of all aspects of the Air Force’s nuclear deterrence mission required by 10 USC § 8040 and provide these assessments to the Secretary of the Air Force (SecAF) and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF). (paragraph 3)
Serve as the Air Force entry point for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint Staff, Air Staff, major commands (MAJCOM), Department of Energy, and other agencies concerning matters related to the Air Force nuclear mission. (paragraph 3)
Conduct monitoring and oversight activities regarding the safety, security, reliability, and effectiveness of Air Force nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons systems, planning, strategy, and policy development, and assessment of Air Force nuclear mission activities. (paragraph 2)
Develop, implement, and evaluate Air Force Personnel Reliability Assurance Program policy and procedures IAW DoD Manual (DoDM) 5210.42, Nuclear Weapons Personnel Reliability; provide oversight of the Air Force Personnel Reliability Assurance Program; liaise with the Department of the Army, Department of the Navy, and other DoD agencies on DoD Personnel Reliability Assurance policy interpretation; and serve as the technical advisor on behalf of the SecAF for issues related to the Air Force Personnel Reliability Assurance Program. Provide guidance and advocacy for deterrence research and for the development of education and training for nuclear-related career fields in coordination with Air Education and Training Command (AETC). (paragraph 3)
