It covers radiation-producing devices, radioactive material, exposure control, training, monitoring, inventories, and incident reporting. It requires local procedures to minimize radiation exposures and prevent loss of control of radioactive material.
Applies to: This instruction applies to all uniformed personnel, civilians, and individuals living and working on Team McChord who might be exposed to ionizing radiation sources.
Ensure personnel in his or her command who receive, distribute, use, or dispose of radioactive material or work with radiation producing devices or material comply with all applicable protection standards and the ALARA concept. (paragraph 48-148)
Notify the Team McChord RSO before making changes regarding the storage and usage of radioactive material or radiation sources which may increase the potential for personnel exposures. (paragraph 40-201)
Ensures radiation training is conducted annually for all personnel that have the potential to be occupationally exposed to 100 mrem in a year IAW AFMAN 48-148, paragraph 3.3.1. (paragraph 40-201)
Nonionizing radiation sources such as lasers and electromagnetic frequency emitters are not covered by this instruction.
