482FW91-203 establishes requirements for energy-control procedures, training, and periodic inspections to prevent unexpected start-up. It details the Nine Step LOTO Process and requirements for isolating hazardous energy during servicing, maintenance, or modification.
Applies to: It applies to all machines, equipment, Air Force workers and contractors who may be exposed to hazardous energy during servicing, maintenance or modification activity.
Only authorized workers shall perform LOTO procedures. (paragraph 3)
LOTO is required whenever service, maintenance or modification will be performed on equipment or machinery where unexpected energizing, start-up or release of stored energy could injure personnel or damage equipment. (paragraph 2)
Notification shall be given before controls are applied and after they are removed. (paragraph 3)
Tags are warning devices attached to energy isolating devices and cannot provide the physical restraint or security of a lock. (paragraph 5)
Energy sources shall remain locked out until all actions are complete. (paragraph 2)
