How often should trained ergonomics personnel perform active surveillance?

Trained ergonomics personnel should perform systematic active surveillance at all worksites at least once per year. (paragraph 1)

Can job rotation be used in response to WMSD symptoms?

Job rotation must not be used in response to symptoms of WMSD; this can contribute to symptom development in all personnel involved in the rotation schedule rather than preventing problems. (paragraph 5)

How much formal ergonomics training should the ergonomics officer have?

The EO is a qualified health or safety professional who has received at least 20 hours of formal ergonomics training (see para 52a for training standards). (paragraph 9)

Are back belts recommended as personal protective equipment for ergonomics applications?

Back belts are not considered PPE and their use is not recommended by the NIOSH or the U.S. Army Surgeon General. (paragraph 6)

Where are Safe Patient Handling and Mobility programs and equipment applicable?

SPHM programs and equipment are applicable in any location where the manual handling of patients occurs. (paragraph 1)
