ATP 7-100.1 explains how Russia would fight according to its doctrine, primarily in large-scale combat operations. It covers Russian strategic and military fundamentals, ground force organization, reconnaissance and security, fires, defense, offense, and supporting capabilities.

The goals of the defense for the SV are z Repel attacks by superior aggressor forces. z Produce maximum losses. z Hold important areas, objects, and key terrain. z Generate advantageous conditions for the conduct of an offensive. (paragraph 6-2)
SV defensive doctrine states that to achieve these requirements, the defense must include z Echeloned positions capable of defending against weapons of mass destruction, precision-guided munitions, and electromagnetic warfare. z Antitank resources. z Air defense resources. z Anti-air assault capabilities.
