ARMY DIR 2025-24 governs Army assignment policy amendments, including branch determinations and applicant branch choices.

It rescinds Army Directive 2016-01 to implement terminology required by Executive Order 14168 without changing Army policy. It sets branch-selection language and deletes or revises provisions in AR 135-100, AR 140-50, AR 350-51, and AR 601-50.
Applies to: The provisions of this directive apply to the Regular Anny, Anny National Guard (ARNG)/Anny National Guard of the United States, and U.S. Anny Reserve.
The branch of assignment for applicants will be determined by the authority tendering appointment. The branch will be based on the applicant's qualifications and the needs of the Service. (paragraph 135-100)
Applicants-2-combat arms, 2-combat support arms, and 2-combat service support arms. One combat arms branch must be among the first three choices. The remaining four branch choices will be at the applicant's discretion. (paragraph 350-51)
Where the provisions of this policy conflict with any other Anny regulation, this directive is controlling. (paragraph 4)
The ARNG Directorate G-1, State adjutants general, commanders, and S-1 s are responsible for executing the provisions of this directive in ARNG units. (paragraph 5)
