It defines safety and maintenance message types, categories, approval authorities, issuance procedures, exceptions, and exclusions. It also sets requirements for temporary waivers, compliance reporting, follow-up actions, and internal control evaluation.
A request for exception to any provision of this regulation will be submitted through command channels to the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS), G4, 500 Army Pentagon, Washington, DC 203100500, unless otherwise specified in this regulation. (paragraph 5)
Will immediately ground or deadline an entire fleet or a designated portion of an MDS fleet. (paragraph 2)
Directs maintenance actions and/or updates technical manuals and may also require compliance reporting and task/inspection reporting. (paragraph 2)
The MI messages will not be used to require the recipient to return notification of receipt to the sender. (paragraph 2)
Temporary waivers may only occur when combat operations or matters of life or death in civil disasters or other emergencies are so urgent they override the consequences of continued operation. (paragraph 2-5)
