AR 40-63 covers optical fabrication, authorized eyewear benefits, spectacle ordering and delivery, lens specifications, contact lens service, and deployment guidance. It requires military personnel to receive eye examinations after entering the Service and establishes priority processing for spectacle orders.
High index lenses are authorized if the total power is greater than or equal to +/-6.00 in any meridian. (paragraph 6-2)
Contact lenses will not be worn during basic training, field exercises, gas chamber exercises, deployments, or combat. (paragraph 3-7)
